I had a quick phone call from Elliott this afternoon - looks like after a few days out in the sticks they are nearing civilisation again. So where did I leave off? Day 3 was another marathon (more or less) and then yesterday they launched into the 'biggie' 81.5km, the double marathon stage which lasts through the night and into the early hours of the following morning.
Let's see if I can collate some of the boys' latest reports on yesterday's big one verbatim...
Kieran - "The support messages is literally like running with 100s of people pushing me forwards. Yesterday was seriously hard and they carried me through. Andy smashed it, and a Herculean effort from Ben and Elliott"
Andy - "Had to go to the doc and have 9 blisters 'sorted out,' I will spare you the details. I stupidly refused the Tramadol... I should've taken it. Ben is adamant a porcupine ran into his leg! My shoes have started to fall apart but they should last me one more day. Going to go as hard as possible tomorrow."
Elliott - "Can I have a quarter pounder meal on the way home and then a takeaway pizza and beer for dinner?"
Kieran was the first back in the tent and is currently in 110th place! Incredible! Andy is currently at 322 after stage 4 and is aiming to make top 250. I don't think Ben and Elliott are counting but are doing an unbelievable job. Looks like all 4 will be crossing the finish line tomorrow and wearing those medals proudly.
Only another marathon tomorrow, pah. You do marathons every day now guys, what's the big deal?! Final push chaps, we're all behind you.
